Softball Game Preview: Centennial Cougars vs. Independence Eagles

The Centennial Cougars will face off against the Independence Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Centennial: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Independence has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

Centennial fell victim to Brentwood and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Bruins. Cougars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bruins since on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Independence won against Spring Hill on Monday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 19-11 margin over Summit. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Reagan Maxon, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Johnson, who went 2-for-5 with four runs.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .422. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Independence has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 3-17.
