Baseball Recap: Gilroy Starts off Right with Win over Lynbrook

Gilroy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Lynbrook Vikings 14-1 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row dating back to last season.

Jared Nelson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Nelson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Brennan Neander and Cameron Hilton did most of the damage at the plate: Neander went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs, while Hilton scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave Hilton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Passama, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Gilroy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lynbrook only posted an OBP of .364.

Gilroy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-1 victory against North Monterey County on the 26th. As for Lynbrook, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-2 win against MacDonald on the 27th.
