Baseball Recap: Bloomfield Takes a Loss

Bloomfield extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-8 in the process. They lost 9-1 to the Newark Academy Minutemen. That's two games in a row now that the Bengals have lost by exactly eight runs.

Bloomfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Obiedzinski, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Newark Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Considering they have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Newark Academy's side, Jared Levine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Levine has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryan Zhu was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Michael Wyche was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bloomfield will challenge Cedar Grove at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newark Academy, they will take on Oratory Prep at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rams will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
