Softball Game Preview: Hebron Hawks vs. Guyer Wildcats

Hebron is 0-5 against Guyer since April of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. The Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hebron 2.1, Guyer 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Wednesday, Hebron narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Marcus 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.

Kate Buesing made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Liz Cardona was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Lilly Pirrello, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Guyer came tearing into Wednesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Cowboys. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Hebron pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Guyer, their record is now 14-2.
