Baseball Game Preview: Southbridge Pioneers vs. St. Bernard's Central Catholic Bernardians

The Southbridge Pioneers will face off against the St. Bernard's Central Catholic Bernardians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southbridge has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southbridge fell victim to Grafton and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Gators, falling 11-0. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, while St. Bernard's Central Catholic put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Worcester Tech. The Bernardians were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Eagles.

Evan Sallila and Ryan Bouchard did most of the damage at the plate: Sallila went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Bouchard went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Bouchard a new career-high. CJ Pelissier was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

St. Bernard's Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Southbridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Southbridge skirted past St. Bernard's Central Catholic 4-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Bernardians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
