Preview: Meridian Hawks vs. Shelbyville Rams

Meridian and Shelbyville are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Meridian Hawks will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Shelbyville Rams at 7:30 p.m. Meridian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Shelbyville likes a good challenge.

Meridian pushed their score all the way to 67 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Maroa-Forsyth 73-67.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Sebastian Hill, who scored 34 points along with six rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15points for seven straight games. Brooks Brown was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 18 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Shelbyville strolled past St. Teresa with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 57-41. Given Shelbyville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while St. Teresa is ranked 491st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Shelbyville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Meridian lost to Shelbyville at home by a decisive 62-46 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Meridian have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
