Football Recap: Hemphill Comes Up Short

Hemphill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Waskom Wildcats 40-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 63-12 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hemphill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Richyon Smith rushed for 111 yards and one touchdown.

Hemphill's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Waskom, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Hemphill will head out on the road to challenge West Sabine at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Waskom, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Shelbyville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
