Basketball Game Preview: Cathedral Fighting Irish vs. Roncalli Royals

The Cathedral Fighting Irish will take on the Roncalli Royals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cathedral comes in on five and Roncalli on eight.

Cathedral is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They strolled past Northview with points to spare, taking the game 38-23.

Cathedral relied on the efforts of Jaeda Wilson, who posted 13 points and three steals, and Caroline Wiggins, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Wiggins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reaghan Gilmore, who earned two points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roncalli). They took down Danville 68-51 on Saturday.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Elliot Leffler and Emma Ancelet. Leffler had a solid game and went 7-for-14 en route to 17 points and six boards. Meanwhile, Ancelet did her best for the losing side, putting up 14 points and five assists.

Roncalli's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Cathedral, their win bumped their record up to 18-9.

Cathedral was able to grind out a solid victory over Roncalli when the teams last played back in November of 2021, winning 59-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cathedral since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
