Asheboro is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Leadership Academy a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Asheboro Blue Comets will be playing at home against the Leadership Academy Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times Asheboro and Central Davidson have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. Asheboro fell just short of Central Davidson by a score of 3-2.
Gavin Allen put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ben Luck made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Shane Immel, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Leadership Academy hadn't done well against Cornerstone Charter recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Leadership Academy walked away with a 6-2 victory over Cornerstone Charter. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Falcons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Chase Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Leadership Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Hank Gaston was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
Asheboro's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Leadership Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
