Baseball Recap: Old Forge Find Success

Old Forge won against Montrose on Saturday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Lakeland Chiefs. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.

Luke Olivieri made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Old Forge is 6-3 when Olivieri allows three or fewer earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Olivieri was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Cam Krushnowski was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Old Forge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Elio Castaldi, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

The win got Old Forge back to even at 9-9. As for Lakeland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season.

Old Forge will take on Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lakeland, they are taking a road trip to square off against Tunkhannock at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Chiefs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
