Nyack had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Yonkers Bulldogs. The Red Hawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Maeve O'Donnell made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. O'Donnell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Eliana Katz and Ava Purcell did most of the damage at the plate: Katz got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Purcell scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Purcell a new career-high. Alyssa Nappi was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Nyack always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .703. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yonkers only posted an OBP of .238.
Yonkers' loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nyack will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ardsley at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st. As for Yonkers, they will head out to challenge Saunders Trades & Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Bulldogs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
