The Corner Canyon Chargers will take on the Herriman Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Corner Canyon comes in on four and Herriman on ten.
Last Tuesday, it was close, but Corner Canyon sidestepped Mountain Ridge for a 63-61 victory. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Sentinels are ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Noah Bendinger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 for 18 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Corner Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Josh Tolman, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points and six boards.
Meanwhile, Herriman hadn't done well against Bingham recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Herriman enjoyed a cozy 63-47 win over Bingham.
Herriman's win came from a few key players Corner Canyon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cale Barclay, who posted 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlo Mulford, who earned 19 points.
Corner Canyon's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Herriman, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Corner Canyon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27 boards per game. However, it's not like Herriman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
