Basketball Recap: South Garner Titans vs. Garner Trojans
The South Garner Titans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Garner on the road to the tune of 73-43. South Garner has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 21 points or more this season.
South Garner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tamia Darden led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Darden has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Taylor Moore was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Garner still got an impressive performance from Olivia Jacobs, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 60.5% of Garner's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sumayah Jones, who scored six points along with two steals.
South Garner has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Garner, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Garner will take on the Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Clayton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Garner, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Storm at 5:30 p.m. Willow Spring is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
