League recap: Salpointe Catholic extends winning streak with victory over Canyon del Oro

Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in II Section II this week by beating Canyon del Oro, 38-7. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Marana made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,221 from 8,175. The advance stemmed from a 49-15 victory over Flowing Wells last week.

Ben Honea threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns. He went 10-12 with zero interceptions.

Elijah Anderson was the best wideout in the league this week as Santa Rita lost to Sunnyside. Anderson tallied 11 receptions for 177 yards. DeQuaven Brooks helped Santa Rita's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 101 yards.

Gary Uselton provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles fell to the Blue Devils. He completed 24 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 19 yards.

Jake Matthews made the biggest impact on defense this week as Ironwood Ridge beat Centennial. The 6-foot-3 senior pulled down one interception, forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and grabbed one sack.

Alexander Howe was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 208 yards as Sahuaro fell to Sunnyside. Teammate Derik Hall added to the ground attack by rushing for seven yards.

Cienega's Adriell Alvarado and Luke Holley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Alvarado has thrown for 1123 yards this season, while Holley, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 39 catches for 579 yards. Mountain View's Richie Estrada leads the league in rushing yards with 836.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Mountain Lions take on the Nighthawks. Mountain View is currently in fifth, while Ironwood Ridge is in first.
