Softball Recap: Central of Coosa County Cougars vs. Randolph County Tigers
Central of Coosa County had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-14 to make it eight. They came up short against the Randolph County Tigers, falling 21-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 17-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2018.
As for Randolph County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Randolph County's part, Gracie Robinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, Robinson posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Randolph County got a massive performance out of Gracie Huckeba, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Huckeba a new career-high. Bryer Thompson was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Central of Coosa County will face off against Isabella at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. Randolph County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
