Baseball Recap: Southern Wells Gets the Win

Southern Wells hadn't done well against South Adams recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Raiders walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Starfires. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Jakob Gearheart was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Robby Freimuth, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

The win made it two in a row for Southern Wells and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for South Adams, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Wells will welcome Southwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Adams, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Parkway at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something the Starfires will no doubt try to take advantage of.
