Baseball Recap: Oak Hills Gets the Win

Oak Hills came out on top against Archbishop McNicholas on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Highlanders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rockets 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since May 6th.

Gabe Cox looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Beckham Shorten was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Lincoln Schreiber was another key player, earning two RBI and one run.

Oak Hills has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Archbishop McNicholas, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9.

Oak Hills and Archbishop McNicholas are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Highlanders will square off against Milford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Archbishop McNicholas, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Monroe at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rockets 3.5, the Hornets 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
