While it always takes a team to win, one person punching above their weight class on Thursday was Spencer Payne. He wasn't messing around, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. The pitching appearance was his third straight with five or more strikeouts.

Payne's strong effort led Vanguard over Lake Weir and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
