Preview: Calhoun County Saints vs. Wagener-Salley War Eagles

Calhoun County is 10-0 against Wagener-Salley since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Calhoun County Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wagener-Salley War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Calhoun County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Wagener-Salley has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.

Last Friday, Calhoun County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against North, but they still walked away with a 50-45 win.

Calhoun County relied on the efforts of Cassidy Pough, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds, and Raniya Tyler, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Tyler is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Destiny Andrade was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two blocks.

Wagener-Salley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 64-8 loss at the hands of Denmark-Olar. While losing is never fun, Wagener-Salley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Denmark-Olar is ranked 54th).

Calhoun County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Wagener-Salley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Calhoun County against Wagener-Salley when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 49-13 win. With Calhoun County ahead 31-5 at the half, the match was all but over already.
