The Canyon Comanches and the Prescott Badgers will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Prescott likes a good challenge.
Canyon is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Costa Mesa: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Canyon blew Costa Mesa out of the water with a 91-41 final score. The Comanches have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 27 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Brandon Benjamin, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Canyon's points. Pierce Haugen was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.
Meanwhile, Prescott made easy work of ALA - Gilbert North two weeks ago and carried off a 62-37 win. That 25 point margin sets a new team best for the Badgers this season.
Canyon better keep an eye on Uriah Tenette. He was instrumental in Prescott's win, putting up 24 points along with eight boards and five assists. The contest was Tenette's 30th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Gaul, who went 9 of 12 on his way to 19 points.
Prescott was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Prescott pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points per game. As for Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Canyon has made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 8.3 three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Prescott, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 threes. Given Canyon's sizable advantage in that area, Prescott will need to find a way to close that gap.
