Softball Recap: Northridge Comes Up Short

Northridge extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-3 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Bend Adams Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Raiders have suffered since May 1, 2024.

Rachel Humbarger put in work no matter where she played. She pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Humbarger was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Humbarger is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Humbarger wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rielyn Goodwin, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Mia Branam was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

As for South Bend Adams, they now have a winning record of 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 13, 2024.

On South Bend Adams' side, Angela McNellis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Chloe Prikosovich was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zariyah Wiley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Northridge will take on Fishers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for South Bend Adams, they will face off against Elkhart Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
