Basketball Recap: Madera Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Madera can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 66-36 loss at the hands of the Corcoran Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 661st, while the Panthers are ranked 290th).

Corcoran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javon Bragg led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Bragg has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 21 times he's played. Julian Fernandez was another key player, going 8-for-14 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds.

Madera's defeat dropped their record down to 17-13. As for Corcoran, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.

Madera does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Corcoran, they will be playing at home against Monache at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Corcoran has won 23 straight at home dating back to last season, while Monache won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
