Basketball Recap: Ethan Pierce's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Front Range Baptist over Campion Academy

Front Range Baptist was the 51-38 winner over Campion Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Front Range Baptist Falcons took a 43-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Campion Academy Cougars. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Front Range Baptist's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Pierce, who posted five points in addition to five boards and five steals. Those five steals gave Pierce a new career-high. Nathan Jaques was another key player, putting up eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Front Range Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 40 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Campion Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Izuchi Nwankwo led the charge by scoring eight points in addition to 16 blocks and three steals. Nwankwo is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted three or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Marroquin, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 18 points.

Front Range Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Campion Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Front Range Baptist has already played their next contest (against Denver Waldorf), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Campion Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
