Baseball Game Preview: Franklinton Red Rams vs. Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets

Franklinton hasn't had much luck against Roanoke Rapids recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Red Rams will head out to challenge the Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Franklinton will be strutting in after a victory while Roanoke Rapids will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Franklinton turned things around against J.F. Webb on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Warriors.

Diego Jimenez-Arellano was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Watson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Conor Simpson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Roanoke Rapids was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Greene Central.

Collin Elias was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan White, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Roanoke Rapids now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Franklinton, their record now sits at 6-16.

Franklinton couldn't quite get it done against Roanoke Rapids when the teams last played back in March as they fell 12-8. Can the Red Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
