Softball Preview: Bangor Rams vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

The Bangor Rams will face off against the Mt. Ararat Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The last five games Bangor has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Bangor is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Hampden, who was ranked 20th at the time (Bangor was ranked eighth). The Rams skirted past the Broncos 3-2. Three seems to be a good number for the Rams as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Emma Tripp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gabby Goding was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Abby Folsom was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat fell victim to Oxford Hills and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mt. Ararat dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Bangor, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
