Softball Recap: Mount Notre Dame Beats Franklin for Their Sixth Straight Win

Mount Notre Dame waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Franklin Wildcats as they made off with a 9-2 win. The result was nothing new for Mount Notre Dame, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Audrey Gildea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Pitzer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kat Zielinski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Mount Notre Dame pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-9.

Mount Notre Dame and Franklin are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Mount Notre Dame will take on Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Franklin, they will square off against Chaminade Julienne Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
