Basketball Game Preview: Marquette Catholic Blazers vs. Whiting Oilers

Marquette Catholic has gone 6-0 against Whiting recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Marquette Catholic Blazers will square off against the Whiting Oilers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Marquette Catholic and 23 for Whiting dating back to last season.

Last Monday, Marquette Catholic was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Bowman Academy.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cole Dobre, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aleks Pecoski, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Whiting played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 62-36 to Wheeler. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Oilers have suffered against the Bearcats since February 3, 2018.

Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Marquette Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Marquette Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Whiting in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 65-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marquette Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
