Softball Recap: McConnellsburg Spartans vs. Fannett Metal
McConnellsburg extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They came up short against Fannett Metal, falling 15-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Fannett Metal this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-3 back in March.
As for Fannett Metal, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Considering they have won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Fannett Metal's part, Harleigh Detweiler made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Detweiler was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caylee Helman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Sadie Wolf was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
McConnellsburg and Fannett Metal could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 496th) will meet Mercersburg Academy (ranked 105th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fannett Metal will face off against Southern Huntingdon County at 2:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (226 vs. 89).
