Softball Recap: Hazel Park Comes Up Short

Hazel Park lost against Renaissance on Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Vikings lost 13-7 to the Phoenix. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Madison Platt (2027) was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and 11 unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, La'Onna Otis (2027) led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Chappell (2026), who went 1-for-3 with six stolen bases and three runs.

Hazel Park's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Renaissance, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hazel Park will host South Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Renaissance, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Western International at 4:30 p.m. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.89 runs per game on average), something the Phoenix will no doubt try to take advantage of.
