Volleyball Recap: Santiago Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Santiago had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Norco Cougars as they made off with a 3-0 victory. The Sharks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Santiago's got stronger as the match went on, holding Norco to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-13.

Reyce Ongalibang paced Santiago's offense, picking up 11 kills. Ongalibang got some help from Carson Chambers and his 37 assists. Ongalibang was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

Santiago pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to blocks: they averaged an imposing 4.33 blocks in those games compared to only 1.83 in the others. As for Norco, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

Santiago and Norco could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Santiago (ranked 145th) will meet Murrieta Mesa (ranked 24th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Norco will take on Elsinore at 5:30 p.m. on Monday down 180 places (331 vs. 151).
