Recap: Unioto Shermans vs. Olentangy Braves
It was a good run, but the Unioto Shermans unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Olentangy by a score of 65-63. While losing is never fun, Unioto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Olentangy is ranked second).
Unioto's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mya Hamilton, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Milee Smith who scored 22 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Hamilton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Uhrig, who scored five points along with six steals.
Unioto's loss ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2. As for Olentangy, they pushed their record up to 14-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Unioto won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Huntington at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th. Huntington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Olentangy, they will head out on the road to challenge Marysville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Marysville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Olentangy likes a good challenge.
