Flag Football Recap: Deseray Thomas Leads Brawley's Defense on Wednesday

Brawley lost against Imperial back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Wildcats fell 19-13 to the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Tigers are ranked 81st).

Although Brawley took the loss, they still got scores from Jacey Reeves and Demi Cornejo.

Even if they lost, Brawley's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Deseray Thomas was the leader with two. She is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

A big part of Imperial's victory came down to the chemistry between Mirella Barron and her top target Aryssa Hellum. Barron threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns while Hellum picked up 61 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Barron didn't just play on offense: she also made one tackle and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Brawley's loss dropped their record down to 9-11-1. As for Imperial, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3-2 record this season.

Brawley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-0 win against Central on the 6th. As for Imperial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 19-18 victory against Calexico on the 6th.
