Nacogdoches hasn't had much luck against Texas recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dragons will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Nacogdoches has given up an average of 26.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 48-21, which was the final score in Nacogdoches' tilt against Mt. Pleasant on Friday.
Nacogdoches might have lost, but man, Rj Whitaker was a machine: he picked up 93 receiving yards and one TD, and also punched in two rushing scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 80 yards. Nacogdoches also got help from Micah Lockett, who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.

Even if they lost, Nacogdoches' defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Braylon Horton was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 19. Another thorn in Mt. Pleasant's side was Landon Sherrard, who made 21 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Texas came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their game with ease, bagging a 56-0 win over the Fightin' Indians. Considering the Tigers have won three contests by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Nacogdoches better keep an eye on Kameron Wrightner. He was instrumental in Texas' win, throwing for 243 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 92.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 54 yards. Thanks to that big game, Wrightner is now up to 30 passing touchdowns on the season. Tradarian Ball was another key player, picking up 77 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Texas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Nacogdoches' loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Texas, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Nacogdoches was taken down by Texas 44-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Dragons were down 44-0.
