The Fairmont Senior Polar Bears are taking a road trip to square off against the Lewis County Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fairmont Senior has four straight wins, Lewis County has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Fairmont Senior's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Charleston Catholic.
Logan Canfield made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Canfield was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Cole Sammons was excellent, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2. Brayden Gorby was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Fairmont Senior was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lewis County scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Philip Barbour.
Lewis County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Aman, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Lewis County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Fairmont Senior, their record now sits at 4-0.
Lewis County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fairmont Senior hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. It's a different story for Lewis County, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain Fairmont Senior's hitters?
Fairmont Senior might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Lewis County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Polar Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
