Football Recap: Sam Dech Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bridgewater-Raritan + How To Watch

Phillipsburg won the last time they faced Bridgewater-Raritan and things went their way on Friday too. The Stateliners were the clear victors by a 36-13 margin over the Panthers. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Stateliners' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Panthers are ranked 62nd).

Phillipsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Dech led the charge by rushing for 162 yards and two scores while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Dech has posted since back in September. Ziyahn McGurn also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.

Another reason for the win was Phillipsburg's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Aedan Hywel was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four himself. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 8.5 sacks on the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Phillipsburg and bumps their season record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for Bridgewater-Raritan, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-3.

Phillipsburg and Bridgewater-Raritan are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Stateliners will be playing in front of their home fans against Newark Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bridgewater-Raritan, they will take on Linden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
