Softball Game Preview: Beloit Memorial Purple Knights vs. Badger Badgers

The Beloit Memorial Purple Knights will face off against the Badger Badgers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Badger took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Beloit Memorial, who comes in off a win.

Beloit Memorial proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Monona Grove 4-3.

Rilynne Cleland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Beloit Memorial's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amiyah Clark, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Caitlyn Rochester, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Badger didn't have quite enough to beat Burlington on Friday and fell 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Badgers have suffered against the Demons since May 11, 2017.

Badger's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Beloit Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Everything went Beloit Memorial's way against Badger when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Beloit Memorial made off with an 11-4 win. Will the Purple Knights repeat their success, or do the Badgers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
