Alabama and Auburn are used to getting verbal commitments from five-star prospects in football.

But early this week it's the Crimson Tide and Tiger basketball programs making news on the recruiting trail.

Mustapha Heron, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound power guard, committed to Auburn on Sunday. He's regarded as a Top 25 prospect by 247Sports and cast his lot with Bruce Pearl and the Tigers over the rival Crimson Tide, Marquette, Mississippi State and St. John's.

Monday it was 6-6 shooter Terrance Ferguson of Prime U (Dallas) signaling his intentions to play for new head coach Avery Johnson at Alabama (Eric Bossi of Rivals broke the news here).

A two-time gold medalist with USA Basketball and borderline Top 10 2016 prospect, Ferguson was considered a Kansas lean.
