Football Game Preview: Boerne-Champion Chargers vs. Southwest Dragons

The Boerne-Champion Chargers will face off against the Southwest Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Boerne-Champion knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Southwest likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Boerne-Champion earned a 51-44 win over Pieper.

It was another big night for Brogan Dempsey, who picked up 180 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. His longest reception was for an incredible 73 yards. William Burgess also helped out as he racked up 117 receiving yards.

Boerne-Champion's run defense was locked in: Pieper could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The Chargers' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.1.

Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Southwest made sure to put some points up on the board against Cigarroa on Friday. The Dragons blew past the Toros 37-6. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 23-0.

Southwest's win came from a few key players Boerne-Champion will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Julleus Castillo, who threw for 120 yards and two TDs on only ten passes, and also punched in one rushing score. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in September. Jae'Von Means was in the mix too, providing Southwest with two scores.

Boerne-Champion has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.2 points over those games. As for Southwest, their record now sits at 8-2.

Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Boerne-Champion has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 216.4 rushing yards.
