2A-1 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mt. Vernon, who took down 228th ranked Mt. Vernon, 45-17.
New Boston extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this week by beating Hooks, 58-22. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Lions.
The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alston Sam threw for 145 and one touchdown and Daniel Brown had 92 yards receiving. On the ground Brown chipped in 91 yards. Kris Ables helped Mt. Vernon's passing attack out by catching three balls for 33 yards.
Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sam has thrown for 659 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Sakorey Chandler has 26 catches for 431 yards. Ables leads the league in rushing with 569 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Queen City takes on Daingerfield. The Bulldogs are in fourth place, while the Tigers are in third place.
Daingerfield moved up to 297 from 342 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 8. Aric Sardinea's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Mt. Vernon 45-17.
