Friars improve to 7-0.

Paced by an explosive offensive attack, led by senior quarterback Charlie Raffa, and a swarming overwhelming defense led by Bryan Rhodes and Jonathan Desir , St. Anthony’s knocked off Holy Trinity 38-13 in the much anticipated rematch of last year’s CHSFL AAA Championship game also won by St. Anthony’s. Dariyan Riley rushed for 132 yards for the Friars. Rhodes and Desir combined for seven sacks.

St. Anthony's (Melville, N.Y.) got on the board on its first play from scrimmage when Raffa connected with senior Brian Kensil for a 74-yard touchdown pass. Jim Doktor’s point after gave the Friars a 7-0 lead just 19 seconds into the game.

After forcing the Titans to punt on consecutive possessions, the Friars added to their lead when Doktor nailed a field goal from 23 yards out.

It didn’t take long for St. Anthony’s to score again. On the ensuing Holy Trinity drive, the Titans coughed it up, and junior Durelle Napier picked up a fumble and ran 59 yards for the score. Doktor’s kick made the score 17-0 late in the first quarter.

The Titans had a sustained drive early in the second quarter, but again turned the ball over to St. Anthony’s. Three plays later, Raffa ran it in from 40 yards out to give the Friars a 24-0 lead.

Holy Trinity got on the board in the third quarter when sophomore quarterback Chris Laviano connected with senior Nick Olsen on a 24-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good.

After St. Anthony scored to go ahead 31-7, Laviano and Olsen hooked up again, this time from 45 yards. The two-point conversion failed.

A 75-yard run by St. Anthony’s Brian Sherlock capped off the scoring.

With the loss the Titans fell to 5-2, 4-2 in CHSAA league play. Holy Trinity will play Xaverian in a game that will determine playoff seeding. St.Anthony’s improved to 7-0, 6-0 in CHSFL AAA, and play Iona Prep next week.
