Baseball Game Preview: Vaughn White Tigers vs. Van Nuys Wolves

The Vaughn White Tigers will take on the Van Nuys Wolves at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Vaughn beats Van Nuys with 13 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the White Tigers' way against Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences on Monday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the White Tigers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Van Nuys, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Arleta on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolves considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Jonathan Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Van Nuys is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Garcia was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alejandro Diaz, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Van Nuys is undefeated when Diaz posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of James Olan, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Van Nuys kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They got five more hits than Arleta's also-impressive total of 11.

The victory got Van Nuys back to even at 7-7. As for Vaughn, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Vaughn skirted past Van Nuys 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Do the White Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
