Baseball Recap: Valhalla Takes a Loss

Valhalla extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Helix Highlanders. The Norsemen were not able to make up for their loss to the Highlanders from their previous meeting back in May of 2021.

Valhalla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mace Wheeler, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Helix, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Helix's side, Matt Martinez looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martinez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kie Smith, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Angel Watkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

While Valhalla had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
