Baseball Game Preview: Charlotte Latin Hawks vs. Mallard Creek Mavericks

The Charlotte Latin Hawks will take on the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Charlotte Latin has 12 straight wins, Mallard Creek has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Charlotte Latin barely beat East Mecklenburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks blew past the Eagles 13-7 on Monday. Considering the Hawks have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Graham Blanton looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Booker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Hawa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Mallard Creek came up short against Charlotte S on Monday and fell 7-2.

David Victoria was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Mallard Creek: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-12 otherwise. Cohen Wright also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Charlotte Latin's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mallard Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Charlotte Latin skirted past Mallard Creek 6-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
