Basketball Recap: 21 Straight Road Victories for Harlingen South

Harlingen South waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Donna North Chiefs 62-20. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 461st, while the Chiefs are ranked 1434th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Harlingen South was led to victory by Serena Cano and Fernanda Martinez. Cano posted 17 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals, while Martinez dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cano a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Aryanna Renteria, who put up nine points.

Harlingen South was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Donna North only posted six assists.

Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points over those games. As for Donna North, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-27.
