Basketball Recap: Gavin Zinger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edmeston Central over Oxford Academy

If Edmeston Central was riding high fresh off their 77-42 takedown of Schenevus Central last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Edmeston Central Panthers fell just short of the Oxford Academy Blackhawks by a score of 41-39 on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-64 back in January.

Edmeston Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gavin Zinger, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Landon Wust, who scored ten points.

Edmeston Central's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Oxford Academy, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Edmeston Central and Oxford Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. Edmeston Central (ranked 279th) will meet Cherry Valley-Springfield (ranked 689th) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Edmeston Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.9 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Oxford Academy will challenge Harpursville at 7:15 p.m. on February 11th up 398 places (328 vs. 726).
