Basketball Recap: Reed Takes a Loss

Reed was the 59-41 winner over Spanish Springs when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Reed Raiders were dealt a 65-23 defeat at the hands of the Spanish Springs Cougars on Monday. The match marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Reed lost, don't look at Josh Peterson. Despite the final result, he posted nine points. That was a full 39.1% of Reed's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marcus Brown, who scored four points.

Spanish Springs got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trevor Landreth out in front who went 6 for 7 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Landreth continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Bowers, who earned 11 points and five rebounds.

Reed's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10. As for Spanish Springs, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-4.
