Baseball Recap: Greencastle Extends Winning Streak to Four

Greencastle extended their winning streak to four on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 12-3 in the process. They put the hurt on the South Putnam Eagles with a sharp 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Tiger Cubs, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Sam Gooch, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Jayce Spidel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Greencastle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

As for South Putnam, they dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The defeat was just more heartbreak for they, who fell 10-8 when the teams last met back in May of 2023.

On South Putnam's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Mullin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. The Eagles are 5-2 when Mullin posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greencastle will face off against Park Tudor at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Putnam, they will challenge Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
