Softball Recap: Derby Red Raiders vs. Wolcott Eagles
Derby extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-11. They came up short against the Wolcott Eagles, falling 22-9. If the Red Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 19-1 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Jaelynn Dwyer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alex Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
As for Wolcott, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Wolcott's side, Avery Malenfant tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Gabby Romanauskas was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with six RBI and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ellie Barsch was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
