The Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones will head out on the road to challenge the Brown County Hornets at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Sacred Heart-Griffin fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Springfield on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Senators by a score of 2-1. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kenzie Wieland was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 19 batters over 9.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Maggie Wichmann was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brown County). They were the clear victors by a 16-9 margin over North Greene on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Nena Boylen was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ranessa Wort was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Brown County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sacred Heart-Griffin now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Brown County, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10.
Brown County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Sacred Heart-Griffin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brown County, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Sacred Heart-Griffin keep running through batters, or will the Hornets buck the trend?
Sacred Heart-Griffin suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Brown County when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Cyclones avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
