Basketball Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Poway Titans
Mt. Carmel is 2-8 against Poway since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will head out to face off against the Poway Titans at 7:00 p.m. Mt. Carmel is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
Mt. Carmel is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were dealt an 84-39 defeat at the hands of San Marcos. While losing is never fun, the Sundevils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 708th, while the Knights are ranked 29th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tyler Humphrey, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Hourani, who earned four points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Poway unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 61-45 bruising from Mission Hills.
Mt. Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Poway, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.
Mt. Carmel strolled past Poway in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 65-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mt. Carmel since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
